Album description

If you are familiar with the very popular Caribbean Medley from Donnie McClurkin's Live in London CD or Speak to Me from the Kirk Franklin and the Family CD or Perpetual Praise, I Am, and Lord You've Been Good from Bam Crawford's Purpose or Be Connected (Stay Connected) from Rev. Jackie McCullough or the Real Power CD from Stitchie or the Victory CD from Papasan or Christafari CDs or the Joy CD from Chevelle Franklyn or the Redeemed CD from Carlene Davis, you have already heard Caribbean or Caribbean influenced gospel music.  Gospel recording artist Aquannette Chinnery's CD titled "Who Is Like Unto You?" gives you not only familiar types of gospel such as contemporary gospel or traditional gospel but also Caribbean gospel(soca/calypso gospel and gospel reggae).   Many listeners and fans have commented that on the title track Aquannette's singing reminds them of how Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, or Sade would sound if they sang gospel and that "So Good To Me" sounds like one of the popular Black mass choirs such as the Mississippi Mass Choir.  The Caribbean songs present different textures within each Caribbean style whether it be reggae or soca/calypso gospel with some songs being very high energy and others taking a more mellow approach to island style praise.  The songs on the CD are scripturally based with the insert providing the scriptural references.

The tracks on the CD titled "Who Is Like Unto You?" range from the contemporary gospel title track "Who Is Like Unto You?" which features the smooth saxophone of Mel Holder to the high energy soca/calypso gospel track "High High High featuring Loris Holland's blazing keyboards that take you to a higher level of praise.  You will definitely want to get something and wave for Jesus Christ. The CD also features other soca/calypso gospel tracks ranging from the more traditional sounding "I Believe" with its sweet steel pan sound and catchy lyrics to "Sweet," another high-energy soca/calypso gospel tune that will have you jumping up for Jesus Christ.  Aquannette and Loris also created a new, original medley of three familiar tunes (Near the Cross, Pass Me Not, and Rescue the Perishing), but they are not done the way you remember your grandmother singing them.  Instead, they are done in an upbeat soca/calypso gospel style that both young and old will enjoy.  Several reggae tracks are also featured on the CD ranging from the catchy "No Other Love Is Greater" with a sound that reaches back to the earlier days of reggae to "El Elyon-The Most High God" with its dancehall-like interlude to "The Blood of Jesus," which takes you back to church.  Another track that will have you rocking, swaying, shouting, stamping your feet, and clapping your hands is "So Good To Me," which is a traditional Black gospel type tune.  The final track on the CD, Elohim, is a praise and worship song that has an almost symphonic, heavenly hosts-like sound with a reggae interlude and dramatic finish.

This CD contains an ecletic, smooth mix of styles that will keep you in the mood for praise whether you're in a mellow mood or a high energy praise mood.  It provides a comfortable place for listeners who love both contemporary and traditional gospel songs but also lets a listener explore something new with the vibrant, annointed sounds of Caribbean gospel.  For those who already love Caribbean gospel, the CD provides authentic gospel reggae and soca/calypso gospel songs of the type that are popular from Jamaica to Trinidad and all points between and beyond!!  This is music for the entire world!
